Learning Bites 💡
This week, I delved into an insightful discussion on "Building Change Networks, Driving Change Adoption." The episode highlighted organisations' evolving challenges in managing change and emphasized the importance of establishing robust change networks to navigate these challenges effectively.
Top Three Takeaways:
Resource Constraints in the Change Landscape: In today's fast-paced environment, organizations confront the paradox of doing more with fewer resources. This scenario contributes to discomfort both at home and in the workplace. With continuous changes impacting employees' lives, organizations struggle to provide adequate support and guidance amidst resource limitations.
Ideal Approach to Change Management: Organizations with sufficient resources can establish dedicated change management structures such as a Change Center of Excellence. Such a setup assists in guiding the workforce through various changes, including reorganization, cultural shifts, or technological advancements. By understanding the organisation's unique dynamics and preparing the workforce for acceptance, adaptation, and sustainability, this approach fosters smoother transitions.
Building Change Agile Organizations: In the absence of abundant resources, organizations can cultivate change agility by forming embedded networks of change-savvy individuals. These networks, comprising Change Practitioners, Change Agents, and Champions/Advocates, serve as a valuable resource for peers and leaders in navigating change. Key elements for maintaining an effective change network include clear governance, regular training and communication, defined roles, and meaningful opportunities for engagement.
What This Means for Practice:
Establishing and nurturing Change Networks is vital for organizations striving to thrive in today's dynamic landscape. The key actions include:
Cultivating a structured approach to change management, leveraging dedicated resources where available.
Encouraging the formation of Change Networks within the organization, comprising individuals with relevant expertise or influential personalities.
Providing ongoing support and developmental opportunities to sustain engagement within the change network.
Empowering a designated point person or group to oversee governance and facilitate coordination within the change network.
Garnering initial support from the business by demonstrating the value of change networks through small-scale, impactful initiatives, gradually expanding and upscaling efforts while maintaining sustainability.
By embracing these insights and implementing tailored strategies, organizations can foster a culture of adaptability and resilience, effectively navigating change and driving sustainable growth.
That’s all Shakers! Reflect on your organization's current approach to change management. How might establishing a formalized change network enhance your ability to navigate future changes and foster a culture of adaptability?

Shaker's Stage 🎤
Let’s welcome Helena Nacinovic, Senior Solution Design Consultant at Slack to take the Stage.
What’s something that moves you each time?
-I'm always moved when I see people adopting new behaviours or using new tools at work because they have participated in any type of learning intervention. Since I sometimes still deliver training myself, it's definitely a high to see people having fun exploring something new.
What’s one lesson your job/profession has taught you that you think everyone should learn at some point in their life?
-My job has shown me time and again the diversity in human beings. I've run into people who think just like me, others who think the complete opposite, and everything in between. When it comes to how people best retain information, best explore chances, people can learn in different ways at different moments. Using yourself as a measure of what works and what doesn't work is a risky approach. Especially since it might have been some time since you participated in a formal learning intervention. And we forget what it feels like to be on the other side. So one advice is: regularly be a student/learner/participant in different learning programs with different methodologies. Go into it and explore your reactions and your level of engagement while you are experiencing it. It's an eye-opener, every time!
What are you currently learning?
-I'm currently learning the ADKAR methodology for change management, which is giving me lots of insights into everything around learning and development. I've participated into the formal Change Management Practitioner Certification from Prosci, and I'm now working with my team to make methodology changes into our approach.
What does being an L&D Shaker look and feel like for you?
-It's really insightful to be a part of a community of L&D Practitioners of all ages and all over the world. Very different perspectives and experiences, which is so useful when we're sharing.
〜See you soon
Till then, keep spicing up your learning! 🧠🧂
